My ancestors were living in Glen......... more in 1802 when their son John was born. Alexander was a merchant - this could mean he was a peddlar or he was a small time grocer or he traded in barley or whatever. I have not been able to find out if there were any more children from the marriage as records are at best very sketchy nor have I been able to ascertain where this Glen....more was.
Does anyone recognise the names?
John went on to become and excise man, he lived in Aberdeenshire, then Inverness-shire and finally settled in Inverness town (Queen Street) where he died in the 1870s. He married a Janet (Jessie) Campbell from Perthshire - her father owned a large farm. Their children were Mary (married Jesbrow (Chessbrough) MacNeill in Inverness, Janet (Jessie) married John MacBean in Inverness, Eliza (did not marry - lived in Inverness till parents died then with brother Alexander in Glasgow), Alexander (did not marry - was a law clerk - he and Eliza both died in the abt 1918 or thereabouts).
Can anyone make a connection?
