My G/G Grandfather John McMillan was born November 1839 in the parish of Kilcalmonell & Kilberry, Argyll. His parents were Archibald and Catherine (McGregor) who were married in the parish of South Knapdale, Argyll July 1829. Are they connected?

Hi from Canada!
Don't know if there is a connection & my details are vague as yet, but my GGG grandfather was also a John McMillan from around the same area as your fellow. He married Elizabeth Hamilton in the 1850s. Their daughter, Margaret McMillan, married Dugald McGregor around 1883. Have more details to share if you like. Thanks!
Mary

My immigrant ancestors were John McMillan and his wife Sarah McGilp who came to North Carolina from Knapdale around 1800. Does any of your information include these people.

Thanks for looking.

I am after any information relating to my G./Grandfather's (John McMillan) parents and any of his siblings (if any). John McMillan was born to Archibald McMillan who was an Engraver by trade and Catherine McGregor on 5/11/1839 in the parish of Kilcalmonell & Kilberry. I have an extract of a marriage entry in the Old Parochial Register for Archibald and Catherine stating they were registered for marriage on 28 June 1829 in the parish of South Knapdale. Catherine's parish is given as Clachan.

Hi saw you posting and wondered if you could help. I am researching the McNair family. I have Alexander McNair who's mother was Agnes or Ann McLellan. She was born around 1802 in South Knapdale and her parents where John McLellan and Flora McMillan. I wonder if these names might mean something to you. I would appreciate any info you might have.

Christine.

I am interested in finding Catherine McMillan who emmigrated to Canada (Quebec) and married a widower Malcolm McGugan after arriving here. He was married to Isobel (Graham?) and lost her in childbirth on the voyage over so I am told. I believe he was born in North Knapdale (Oct. 4 or 5 1785) but, so far, have no information on her. I would like to know anything more about this family and what it was like in that area around that time. I am especially interested in finding out what ship they came over on. I think it must have been after 1819 as the last child from first marriage was Mary born that year. We have heard in family oral history that they came on the "Rebecca" but I have been unable to find any passenger lists in that time period. I was also told that Catherine came over on the same ship. Any and all information that would take me back another generation for both of them would be great. I beleive that Malcolm's father and mother were Donald McGugan and Katherine McMillan. I am told that he (Malcolm) came over with a brother Donald as well. The other bit of information is that the two witnesses at his wedding were John Smith and Duncan May.
I have more tidbits about John if you are interested.
Thanks for any help or direction
Gail
