Hi Mike...I'm Aileen and my friend Angela is your 2nd cousin..I've been helping her research the family and its great to get a reply...Angela is going to take over the next bit of the message.... Hi Mike, Angela here, and hello 2nd cousin in Canada....I live in Penarth near Cardiff Wales...I've been trying to find out as much as possible about the Irish connection in the family as Christopher Lanigan was my Grandfather, married to Katherine O'Hanlon..they had my mum Rosa and she was an only child.. She passed away in 2006 aged 80,and she would have loved to have known about the very large family all over the continents, as she very often thought there was only just her!!!Her one regret was that she never got to meet her Dad,as he left the family home when she was 2 ys old to return to Ireland...Christopher and Katherine never divorced he just left....My friend Aileen did some research online(I dont use the computer much) and we contacted the local parish church in Waterford and they were a great help in giving me my Grandfather's grave details...On a visit then to Waterford a few months later in 2007 we (My husband Chris and I,and my son Michael and his now wife Sandra(from Kilkenny)!!) went to find the grave of my Grandfather Christopher Lanigan and found he was buried in the family grave ,but his name was not listed with the other family members....from there we then visited 'Ivy cottage' and met with Tom's daughter(cannot remember her name) and she said that she would keep in touch with me and send me lots of info and pics that she would find...however, to date nothing has been sent to me..I was interested in your email when you said that you have records of the Lanigan/Keane family in your possession...I tracked down Christopher's birth/marriage/ and death cert's..Sadly he died in St. Otteran's Mental Hospital, aged just 42 in 1947....I have tried to find his medical records but as yet no luck...I am also disappointed that no family member is listed on his death cert as being ''present at death'', and find it quite sad that he died alone in a mental hospital in Waterford with his family so near by.....The person listed on his death cert as present at death is a James Meeghen, I would like to think that he was a friend to my Grandfather in his last days....In 2008 we visited Waterford again and this time took with us a wooden cross with a brass plaque attached with Christophers name on it as a mark of where he is buried within the family grave.I would love to have a picture of Christopher, and to find out more about why he was admitted into a mental hospital....Do you have any insight to this Mike? or pictures of Christopher ,his brothers and sisters?? or their parents Francis and Bridget?? In fact I would love to just hear from you and to combine our family history together...my tree is a public tree on ancestry ,is your tree online and open to the public too??.. Aileen's email address
is....aileenthyer@hotmail.com...We are both anxiously waiting to hear from you.....Regards..Angela and Aileen!
