Searching for Lusks from Ireland

BobarbLu  (View posts) Posted: 19 Jul 2001 4:23PM GMT
I am researching my Lusk family who came from Ireland in the early 1730's. Info that I have is that Nathan, John, and possible william Lusk, sons of Joseph Lusk came to America abt 1730. I would appreciate any data anyone can provide.

The name Lusk is found in Banbridge. A John Lusk is listed at Ballykelly in 1886. He was a farmer. It is a toponymic name from the village of Lusk in Co. Dublin but now mainly found in N.E. Ulster. The appropriate volume of gravestone inscriptions for Banbridge from the Ulster Historical Foundation in Belfast (web site) might take this family back further. Records in the 1730's are pretty scarce and gravestone inscriptions the most likely place to find ancestors from that period.

Hi cousin! I am descended from this Lusk family and have done extensive research over the past 5 years. I have recently traveled to Augusta County Virginia and Polk county Missouri and researched in the courthouses there. Have you contacted George Boyd Lusk from California? he has lots of information too. I'm actually a college student majoring in Family History. I have a class right now called "writing family histories" and I was going to do my project on the Lusk family in order to put all my research together.

My Lusk line of ancestry is as follows (death dates listed):
Samuel Lusk died 1833, Greene Co., IL
John Lusk - d. 1861, Polk Co., Missouri
Robert Lusk - d. abt 1800, Carter co., TN
John Lusk - d. 1751, Augusta Co,. VA
Nathan Lusk - d. 1745, Augusta Co., VA
John Lusk from Ireland (?)
Joseph Lusk from Ireland (?)

I would love to exchange info with you. I have a lot of information, but the farther back on my line, the less I have. Are you by chance descended from William Boyd Lusk, who died in Henry County Iowa around 1890?

thanks!
Susan

I am looking for information on Nathan and John also. How sure are you that these boys are Irish and not Scots? I'm not trying to dispute you, I am just curious.

I do think John and Nathan are Scot Irish and their forefathers probably came from Scotland to irealand at some time before coming to America.
