I am searching for my Moody family. My 5th grt. grandfather James MOODY may have come to North America by way of Northern Ireland. His 1st marriage was in Buxton, York, ME in Jan. 1774 and his 2nd marriage was in Annapolis Co., Nova Scotia in July 1784.
It is thought he might have been a Loyalist and fled to Canada just after marrying his 1st wife.
There are No other records of him in Maine which leads me to believe he may have emigrated from Ireland. In the 1881 NS census, his living relatives, grandsons and great-grandchildren all claim to be of Irish origins when others in the same household claim to be English.
I don't think they would say that if they were not truly Irish.
If anyone has records or family, or lives in Ireland and knows of any James MOODY's (or other spellings) who came to America, possibly around the 1760's or 1770's, Please let me know.
Thank you for any help at all.
