I have been trying to communicate with you for a few years, but never seem to have the right address. I am hoping that this one is still in working order.
There was a time when you asked that I contact you regarding my grandfather's family from Emly, Moanmore Tipperary, Ire. Father Seamus Rochford also told me that you may have information regarding them, but he did not have your contact information.
My grandfather was Tobias Bourke Ryan and he was born in Emly in Feb 1873. His father was Patrick Ryan and his mother Johanna Bourke Ryan (birthdates unknown). They were married in Emly on Jan 27, 1861 according to Fr. Rochford's records, and their other children were:
Catherine b Dec 1861
Michael b 1863
Johanna b. Apr 1868
William b. May 1869
Tobias b. Feb 1973
Margaret b. Sept 1875
Bridget b. Feb 1878
and John b. June 1880
It seems that William and John remained in Ireland, although I have no further information about them. Bridget died in infancy, and Tobias came to Chicago Illinois and married Mary McNamara who emmigrated from Kilteely Limerick.
My mother was their youngest (of 10) child. At the 1900 census of Moanmore, Johanna Bourke Ryan was listed as living with her neice, Margaret Bourke, a spinster. Could this be a relative of yours. Do you have any further information regarding my Ryan/Bourke connections? Traveled there three times, and met a Tobias Bourke who was about 95 yrs old at the time and he remembered my grandfather, and that he had went to the US and married a Limerick girl. While there, townsfolk thought that Johanna was related to Morgan Bourke and/or Ulick Bourke. Any thoughts on this connection. Am at a standstill right now, and cannot even find the marriage data on Patrick and Johanna, except for what Fr. Rochford has supplied me with, nor of birth or death dates. Had a hint that Johanna's parents might be William Bourke and Mary Fleming of Moanmore, but am not sure. Thanking you for your input and any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Shanahan
