Bernard F. Dwyer, 80
DELMAR - Bernard F. Dwyer, 80, of Delmar, died suddenly on Monday, March 1, 2004.
He was born April 8, 1923, in Troy, son of the late Joseph P. Dwyer and Florence L. Goodwin of Troy; grandson of the late Michael J. Dwyer and Alice L. McMahon Dillon of Troy and of Richard Wells Goodwin and Margaret A. Monahan; great- grandson of the late Michael J. Dwyer and Catherine Fahey of Tipperary, Ireland, and Troy.
He was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1941 graduate of La Salle Institute in Troy, an Army Veteran of World War II, and a 1950 graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He had been an electrical engineer with the state Department of Public Service. He represented the department's employees on the statewide Board of Directors of the Civil Service Employees Association. He retired in 1983 after 30 years of service.
Mr. Dwyer was a member of the Colonie Historical Association, the Lake George Post of the American Legion and the Tibbits Cadets in Troy, where he was on the Board of Directors. He also had been a member of the S.W. Pitts Hose Co. in Latham.
He was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and Capital District Alzheimer's Association.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary P. Schmidt; daughters, Linda D. Cleary (Kevin) of Delmar, Nancy M. Swift (Gregory) of Glenmont and Susan M. Dunne (Garry) of North Easton, MA; a son, James G. Dwyer (Colleen), of Williamsburg, VA; and 10 grandchildren, Casey, Matthew and Timothy Cleary, Thomas, Jennie and Kristina Swift, Andrew and Meghan Dunne, and Anna and Maggie Dwyer. He was predeceased by two sisters, Florence and Joyce, and by two brothers, Joseph and Rev. Morris Dwyer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 5, at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 35 Adams Place, Delmar. Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar.
In lieu of flowers, donations to La Salle Institute, Troy, or to the Northeastern Association of the Blind will be appreciated.
