Hello friends in Tipperary. I'm researching my mother's father's side of my family who had roots in Roscrea, co. Tipperary. Any suggestions for researching via e-mail or mail to find out more would be appreciated.
My great grandfather was Patrick LEAHY, b. in Roscrea, Tipperary, Ireland 17 Mar. 1833, died in Owego, NY 25 Nov. 1896. He came to the U.S. as a youth in 1846 and lived with an uncle near Chicago (prob. s. Wisc.) until moving to Owego c. 1850. He married Ann(e) TIERNEY, b. 1834 in Tipperary, d. 11 Dec. 1875 in Owego, NY.
Patrick's parents were Michael LEAHY, b 1804 in Tipperary, and Jonanah. Anne's parents were Michael TIERNEY and Margaret (b.1809 Tipperary d.28 May 1881 Tipperary). Patrick had a brother, James J. LEAHY, who was said to be a member of the Tipperary parlament.
I'd be curious to know if there are still people in the Roscrea region with the surnames LEAHY AND TIERNEY. Where could I find information about any existing research done on these families, ancestry, etc.? Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated. - Ray
