I have, in my possession, a book by Nellie McClung - Canadian authoress, whose maiden name was Mooney. The book is titled "Clearing in the West, My Own Story". It has a copyright in Canada for Nellie in 1935, and again (a reprint) in 1964 for Thomas Allen Limited of Toronto. There is a dedication to her eldest brother, William Scott Mooney, "In Loving Memory". There is some history of her family in the book, mentioning that her father John Mooney came to Bytown (in "Upper Canada" before Confederation) from Ireland in 1830 at the age of 18. Her grandfather William Mooney was from NENAUGH, Tipperary "near the rock of Cashel". His two older brothers came with him, William and Thomas. Of interest regarding your surname list, the history also mentions, "The Shouldice family, cousins of the Mooneys, living in Nepean" (Ontario). It also mentions a marriage of her father John to his cousin Jane Shouldice, "but Jane lived only a little over a year", then in 1858 he married her (Nellie's) mother Letitia McCurdy.

I have one Mooney connection via a great-great-grandmother, but I have not completed any research on this branch of my family, or have made any connections. She was Eliza Mooney b. 22 Aug 1834 d. 17 Jan 1908 and is buried in Danford Lake, PQ, CAN. She married Adam Hodgins 11 Apr 1860. Adam was born 18 Jun 1828, d. 12 May 1884 and is also buried in Danford Lake. I have Eliza's parents listed as William Mooney d. 1880 and Eliza (no maiden name) d. 1876. I have a copy of the information page from their family bible.
