Hi thanks for posting! Mary Keating was born June 1829 in Ireland. I believe in Tipperary. Actually I believe they were from the same area and John Tobin followed the Keatings or Keatings followed John to Kane County. There were a couple of prominent Keating families in the area. I believe the wife of Edward J. Keating was John Tobin's sister, Mary. Edward Keating and wife Mary were from Tipperary as well. Mary was born 15 August 1809 and died 28 May 1901. At the time of her death she lived with Mary (Keating) Tobin, John's widow.

John and Mary were married 6 June 1865. In the Tobin Genealogy by Charles Meyers: "She apparently was a very small person, and not favorably looked upon by some family members. She was referred to as 'the mouse.'" When Charles Meyers' mother, Katherine (Tobin) Meyers, was 5 years old, she visited Mary Keating when she lived on South Street in Elgin. Katherine went in to see Mary (Keating) Tobin and very promptly said 'hello, mouse.'

All for now.
Let me know if you have questions.
