Thank you, Ella, for your prompt response.
My Hughes lot were Church of Ireland folk who came from the Cooley Peninsula in North Louth. They lived in the townland of Killin in the late 1700s and they attended the local Church of Ireland church at Ballymascanlan.
C of I bretheren usually married partners from their own faith so there was a fair amount of inter-marrying within families. I note that your surname is Patterson and I have a number of Patterson marriages in my files - several married McElwains from Emyvale County Monaghan.
I would be grateful if you could kindly let me have the pedigree of your ancestors and I will see if I can make any connections with my Hughes lot or any other families on my files.
I have a database of some 30 000 names of Louth folk so it is possible that there may be a few links.
