Hello Lynda
I have just returned from holiday and collected your posting of 13 August 2009.
INGRAM/HUGHES
I have checked my list of Hughes families and cannot find a family for William Ingram and Jane Hughes in my particular area of interest - the Cooley Peninsula of County Louth which is the smallest county in Ireland.
Having researched in Ireland for over 20 years and knowing something about the pattern of naming, I would suggest that the names you mention are likely to be non Catholic and you may in the first instance concentrate on Church of Ireland sources.
JANE HUGHES
Whilst I do not have this family in my records I have a Jane Hughes on my files and I cannot place her in any family tree. I am reasonably convinced that she fits into my ancestry somewhere. Her name appears in the 1854 Griffith Valuations for County Louth. If you look up these records you will see Jane Hughes listed in the townland of Killin and she held land there. She transferred land to a distant relative of mine around the 1860s but I do not know what became of her. She is one of my "missing persons" who I am trying to fit into my jigsaw puzzle.
If in the future you trace the family to County Louth I shall be very interested if what you find on Jane Hughes.
Have you got anything else on the couple??
Regards
Michael Hughes
