www.rootsireland.ie(I assume he was at least 20 in 1841, which makes him born 1820 approx. You can search for a person with just the name and a birth year.

As there are so many counties you could try and the earliest exisiting record that is now used as a census substitute, will leave it to you to find the possibilities.
www.genealogy.nationalarchives. 1823-1837 (easy to use) look for the name Alexander as it would of been passed along in a family, very English so possibily Protesant even with the name Doyle, there were at lot of Protestants in Leinster, and the south east.

King's: Wicklow, Wexford, Queens, and Carlow.
There was no Normandin in the usual records mention above, but a couple of Norman, Normandy and a deNormandie (a Scot) in Ireland.
