Thank you Lauren for your explanation. I have been doing genealogy for 26 years and am well aware of the spellings and their evolvements over time. Even when the Scots came to Nor. Ireland some of them of which I believe to include my own families name was changed from its orig. Scottish spelling to the more common English spelling of which it still is today for many of us.
In these postings one cannot possible cover all of the bases in the aspects of genealogy so while it may seem to some readers that we've overlooked something, it may simply be that we just didn't take the time to address that particular subject.
I was merely trying to find out what the correct spelling of the town/parish name was Newton or Newtown as it ~may~ have had some bearing on the name being used in our family tree...but I figured it probably didn't. However when one has been up against a brick wall for a long time, we do tend to let our guards down and grasp for any straws that may come along which often lead us right back to our brick walls anyway.
Thank You again for your reply and the info is much appreciated and I'm sure will be helpful to others who may not have been at this genealogy for quite as long.
