My great-grandfather, Jeremiah Michael Shea (1857-1937), was born in County Kerry to Patrick Shea (~1818-1896) and Ellen/Eleanor Driskill/Driscoll (1819-1912). His siblings included James Patrick (1857-1925), Mary J (1860-1916), Patrick Henry (1863-1897), Catharine (1865-1888), and Ellen/Eleanor D (1868-1913). James and Jerry are not twins; they are a problem but that's outside the purpose of this post.
The whole family emigrated in late 1871 or 1872. The settled in the Town of Veteran, Chemung County, New York, USA and attended St. Mary's [RC] Church in the Town of Horseheads. James became a railroad telegraph operator, Jerry worked for various railroads and became head of maintenance, Patrick was hit by a train while walking along the tracks, Mary married and had several children (only the girls survived), Catherine died young (not clue what happened), and Ellen married and had a bunch of boys and girls.
The surname was spelled Shay after arrival in USA. I haven't found them in Ireland yet.
The elder Patrick's New York death certificate says his parents were Patrick Shea and "Katie" Sugrue. The elder Ellen's death certificate says her parents where Jeremiah Driskill and Mary Barry.
