Hello,

I'm trying to find information on my great great grandmother Alice Condron. She was born around 1894 somewhere in Ireland and died 1924 in Lancashire, England. She died when my great granddad was young and his father never spoke about her after she died so he doesn't remember much about her. I am trying to find where she was from and who her parents/family were. We know she had a sister named Annie Condron (abt 1885-1952) who married Thomas Boucher (1884-1944), my great granddad remembers them speaking about living in Tipperary but we don't know if that's where Annie and Alice were originally from. I don't know when they moved to England but Alice married my great great granddad Joseph Lyle in Lancashire in 1911.

Any help would be appreciated.

I note that on the 1911 Census of England Alice states that she was born in Manchester. It is also noted that she was 20 years old which would make her born in 1891. Are you sure she was born in Ireland?

To proceed further you will need to purchase her marriage cert. It will give the name of her father and her father's occupation. This should enable you to find her on the Census of 1901 either in England or in Ireland.

The only possible match which I found in the 1901 census of Ireland was in Fairview, Dublin. You will note that this Alice had a sister Mary Annie Condron who was 19 years old therefore born 1882.
It might be a match although I'd get the marriage cert first to see what information it tells you.

I have seen that census and I'm not sure she was born in Ireland, my great granddad thought she was but she may have been born in Manchester. I think she lied about her age though as every record I have of her has a different age. It says she was 21 on her marriage certificate then 20 on the census in 1911 but only 30 on her death record in 1924. My great grandparents do have her marriage certificate, I completely forgot about it, it says her dad was Daniel Condron, a railway labourer and the marriage was witnessed by Michael Condron who I think might have been her brother. I was able to find Daniel and Michael on censuses but couldn't find one with Alice so I'm not sure if they are the same people as on the marriage certificate but if they are I can't find where Alice was. I might try posting this on an English board. Thanks for your help.

There is a Daniel Condron in Manchester in the 1911 census with a daughter, Annie Cuddy, a widow, living with him. Perhaps she was married once before marrying Boucher? Daniel is noted as a railway porter and he says he was born in Queens, Ireland, and is 67 years of age. Annie is 25. 1901 census has other children, but no Alice. The youngest child is Bridget, aged 8. Is it possible she was Bridget Alice?

If a match, there is a marriage for a Mary Condron, daughter of Daniel, in Manchester in 1901. He is noted as a porter and living at 19 Brunswick Place. She married a James Rayner (or Raymer) of 3 Brunswick Place, a fitter by trade. Married in the Established Church, which was Anglican (Church of England), and not Catholic.

1901 census shows a John Condron, also of Queens County (New Town), working in a coal miner in Co. Durham. Born about 1876, he is the right age to be another son of Daniel's.
