Surnames: MOODY - MUDIE - MOODIE -
I am searching for my Irish MOODY family. My 5th grt. grandfather James MOODY b.c1750 (could have been born about 10 years earlier but Not any later than c1753), shows up on record for the first time in Jan. 1774 Buxton, York Co., Maine, USA, when he married his 1st wife Elizabeth DONALD.
He and his 1st wife must have fled to Canada just before the Rev. War broke out because he nor his family can be found in any records there until later.
In July 1784 he is marrying his 2nd wife Sarah BAKER in or near Annapolis Co., Nova Scotia, Canada. She was a daughter of John BAKER and Persis WHEELER who both came from Massachusetts to Nova Scotia.

James and Sarah had about 9 known children together. Some of their Grandchildren are still living as of the 1881 NS Census and they all claim to be of "Irish" descent even though others in the same household claim to be English or of other origins.
One of the families that they married in to is McGranahan (also seen spelled MacGranahan and Magranahan). The old book Irish Names and Surnames by Rev. Patrick Woulfe - 1923 says that this surname is of Donegal. However I have found it in Co. Tyrone as well which is where I am suspicious that my Moody family might have come from as well.
I also believe that my ancient family may have come from Scotland to Northern Ireland during the Plantation Period of the 1600's. Their last name would have been spelled MUDIE or MOODIE if that's the case.
If anyone has info that might be of help, Please let me know.
Thank you for your time.
