hi...thanks for responding! Im so often warmed by generous people like yourself lending a helping hand.
My great grandmother Elizabeth Mitchell and her husband, Cornelius Guerin (spelled Gueran on the certificate) were married 21 Jul 1883. The church marriage record reports Cornelius was living in Mt Bellows, and Elizabeth in Caltra. They were roman cathlic.
My grandmother, Mary Josephine Guerin (spelled Gueran) was born 14 May 1884, baptised in the parish Caltra, with address listed as Caltra and the civil birth registered in the district of Clonbrock. Cornelius was with the RIC and my Ggrandmother lists herself as Lizzie (and the U.S. census' as well.) Listed as witnesses or sponsors on these documents were Maria Mitchell, sarah mitchell, michael collins, cecillia mitchell and thomas mitchell.
Thanks for all your help...Kate
I don't know who the 2 relatives (patrick mitchell and mary mitchell) were that escorted by grandmother, Mary Josephine Guerin (spelled Guirin) to NY in 1894. My grandmother was 10 and they were both around 20 years...I'm speculating that they were an aunt and an uncle. I don't know where Elizabeth was born. She was very specific on the 1900 US census that she was born Nov 1863. On other documents, she reports approximately 1865. I found 2 Elizabeth Mitchells born in 1862 in Caltra, and also St Nicholas Combined N & E, and then an Elizabeth Mitchell in Co Donnegal for Nov '63. Her father might have been Patrick, or John, or Hugh. (only the names Patrick and John have come down thru the generations - no Hugh).
Cornelius was born in 1859 in Duagh, Co Kerry. Cornelius parents were Mary Heffernan and James Guerin of Ballygrennan, Co Kerry.
