Hi Pat,
I'm wondering if you will be able to help me out here? I'm stuck and it is so frustrating. We know Bartholomew was born in 1850 but we were told that the record office burned down when we tried to get further information. I don't suppose you know his actual birthdate?
As for the fishing industry I spent the first twelve years of my working life on trawlers. My dad was a fisherman but I am the only one of his three sons that followed him in to the industry. Sadly, my father was killed at sea in 1967 aged 56. It was a very hard life but I do have some good memories from my time spent at sea.
Last week I went to 55 Mount Street where Bartholomew's family lived. His daughter, Susan Mcloughlin married James Patterson who lived over the road at number 58. I took photos of both houses and will add them to my family tree when I get them developed.
I've been researching Susan's son, John Jerrod Patterson (my uncle) His ship was blown up by a mine off Falmouth in September 1940. It is so sad as he was only in service for four days before being killed. He was 26. I'm trying to find some photos of the HMT Comet, as this is the ship he was on when he died. I like to add as many photos as possible to my family tree so that when I'm no longer here and my son takes over they will have a pretty comprehensive record.
Well, thats all for now Pat.
Kind regards,
John
