Classification: Query
Surnames: McCleve. Antrim and Down, N. Ireland
I am related to the McFerrens and McCleaves and have read much written about John McCleave (McCleve) and Mary Jane (McFerren). There are many mistakes. The McCleve family was not from Ballymoney, Antrim. They were from Ballymullen townland which is the area around Crawfordsburn William McFerran farmed at Skelly Hill, not Shellyhill. Skelly Hill is in the neighbouring townland of Ballygrot (today called Helen's Bay). The name Gilmore I believe is after Alexander Gilmer (not Gilmore). The Gilmers farmed in the Crawfordsburn area. Alexander Gilmer was not a wealthy landowner but a small tenant farmer. The Banger Moss mentioned should be Bangor Moss. A moss is a peat bog.
