Hello out there,
I have some questions about any knowedge of the subject person.
Thomas Hunter (middle name unknown) was born in County Cork Ireland about 1850. He emigrated to the US in 1864 and probably landed in New York. I believe he may have sailed with possible maternal grandparents by the name of James and Mary J Dunn or Done.
Thomas was my maternal great-grandfather and eventually married a young woman from Tennessee, USA in 1870. Her name was Sarah Ann (possibly Haun) and they migrated to Illinois.
Thomas and Sarah had 3 children of their own and sometime in 1879 adopted a baby girl from Ireland by the name of Mary J. Taylor.
John William Hunter, Thomas and Sarah's only known son was born in 1880 and this was my maternal grandfather.
I am not sure what the rule of thumb is regarding Irish namesakes. If my grandfather was named John William, I wonder if either of these might have been the name of Thomas' father or grandfather?
I know other information about Thomas Hunter in the US, however, I have nothing on his parentage or life in Ireland.
Records show that both of his parents were also born in County Cork, Ireland, but that is all I have.
If anyone has any knowledge of the people in this post, please reply at your convenience.
Thank you,
Cynthia Young
