Our documented family begins with Jeremiah Moore, born in Ireland between 1800-1810 who married Feb 1839 to Martha Morgan in the area of Cavan, Ontario, Canada. We believe the Joseph Moore who married a Catherine Morgan (not a sister of Martha) on the same day. The witnesses were Samuel Newman and John Morgan John Morgan was proalby the father of Catherine Morgan. The couples were married by a Wesleyan Methodist minister.
Y-DNA testing indicates we are closely related to a Moher family of County Cork who are Catholic. We suspect the surname was changed from Moher to Moore either when the family split over religion in the 1700's or when they immigrated to America in the 1830's.
Would like to correspond with anyone with information of a Moher/Moore family split over religion. Also would appreciate suggestion for locaating Protestant records for County Cork from 1790 to 1840.
