The Province of Connacht - transplantation and the Mile Line around the perimeter of Connacht and Clare

I have done a post concerning David Wakefield and the land description for the Wakefield Family Estate that includes the reference to Connaught-and this is a Province. David Wakefield's great great grandfather, John Wakefield, is listed as one of the '49 Officers who were Protestants Royalist who had the '49 Arrears and were recoginized by King Charles II for their military service and loyality. Lands were held in trust for the '49 Officers-and they rec'd land in payment for the '49 Arrears. They were not part of Cromwells Parlimentatarian soldiers and they were opposed to this ideology. "King Charles II provided for the '49 officers by granting them all the undisposed lands in the counties of Donegal Leitrim, Longford and Wicklow, the undisposed land in the 'mile line'-term used to identify land stretching from the coast one mile inland in the Province of Connacht and one mile westward from the river Shannon." "Charles II's Irish Caviliers: the 1649 Officers and the Restoration land settlement page 410 or reference at http:www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclaire/history/cromwell_settleme... page 2 explains ""Connacht and Clare were chosen as the area of transplantation because they were surrounded by water except for a ten mile stretch of land which was to be protected by a series of forts. A one mile strip called The Mile Line, around the perimeter of Connacht and Clare was reserved for military settlers 'to confine the transplanted and to cut them off from relief by sea.' The Irish were forbidden to live in the towns of Connacht."
As I have pointed out my ancestor John Wakefield is on the list for the '49 Officers, I have a copy, and King Charles II included the lands mentioned above that include this mile line and this was for military settlers-I assume John Wakefield fit these requirements. Is there any way to find records for the '49 Officers that settled in the Province of Connacht? Like is listed with the land description for David Wakefield and in the Wakefield Memorial so many Wakefield's reference-is Connaught or Connacht-and it is very likely this is where John Wakefield was granted land.
Any suggestions or do you know of any records for this other than the list of the '49 Officers that includes John Wakefield? Or are there any records for Connaught Certificates 1654-1658 in case John Wakefield forfeited his lands due to remaining loyal to the King and not Cromwell? Thanks, Cindy coetting57@hotmail.com

From the book Wakefield Memorial by Homer Wakefield pages 216-217
David Wakefield was born in 1735 on the family estate mentioned above to Robert and ?, Robert the son of Robert. David's siblings:
Robert b?;beheaded for complicity in a plot against Catholic rule in Ireland.
Gilbert b?;arrested with his brother Robert, and imprisoned for life.
Samuel, b?;escaped to Scotland in a row boat, when detected in plot against Catholic Church.
David escaped by hiding in a hogshead of clothing his wife Mary Jane or Elizabeth Wade? took with her onto ship sailing to America. This is between 1768 and 1773.
David had an Uncle who also emigrated to America, prior to 1783, and settled on the Junanitta River, PA and later removed to Nelson County, Ky.
He married Bridget Banks prior to immigrating. His children:
Mary born 1755
John born Feb 3, 1757 married 1786 to Elizabeth Alexander-this family may be familiar.
and there are more listed.
David's uncle Andrew who married Margaret Reddick resided on the family estate and remained there.
Any info on this family? Thanks, Cindy coetting57@hotmail.com

Hi there, given that it's been 8 years since your last post, I hope you are still monitoring this list.

I just discovered that my great grandfather was from Ballinrobe. His name was Peter Sheridan. He came to the United States in 1892.

Family lore has it that after immigrating to the US, he briefly resided in Pennsylvania before moving on to Texas and, ultimately, Chicago.

Peter's father was Michael Sheridan, married to Ellen Partland. He had a brother named James, though born in 1870. Would be interested to learning more about what you have learn. Thanks!

John Sheridan, Columbus, Ohio

You may have got this information by now but in the Irish civil registration index at www.familysearch.org
there is a marriage for a John Lynn Ballina registration district Year 1923 quarter Apr-Jun volume 4 page 417 and matching references for a Barbara Gallgher that looks like a good fit. You can order the cert by downloading an application form at www.groireland.ie if you order a photocopy it costs less and gives the same information - fathers' names for bride and groom and residence of both. From this you may be able to find John Lynn in the 1911 census.
Also there are some Lynn births registered in the Ballina district from 1930-1948 with mother's surname given as Gallagher- the index does not show mother's surname earlier than 1928 or so.
Hope this is of help.
annclare

Dear D. Morley, At the moment I am trying to find parents of James T. Neary and his wife Anna Ford in Ireland. Their son son Bernard J. Neary is my grandfather and his son James W. Neary my father. I am interested in finding any information. My mother and father never married and I have never seen a picture of my father or know much about him or the family. I was able to find the information I have because my mother told me names before she died. I know at least some members of the family knew of my existence because his mother Elva and sister Mary helped my mom while she was pregnant. So, on the one hand just building the family tree including Ireland is one goal of mine, the other would be to find family. So, any information you are willing to share would be gratefully received. Thank you so much.
Grace

Hi Anne. I am a professional historian researching the descendants of Francis Cormac Walshe's sister, Millicent, who married a Corkman. I have also, as a result, been probing the Cormac Walsh story. I can confirm that there is a curious Danish link which I have yet to delve into but has been mentioned to me by other descendants of the Cormac Walshes. Could you get in touch please? I'm sure we could be of help to each other. I am certainly interested in your family also as part of the broader story I'm researching. Please email me directly at billpower@gmx.com. Thanks, Bill

I'm looking for any information on the families of Michael Reynolds and Isabella O'Farrell still in Ireland. They were married in the RC church in Mohill on 17 Feb 1853. They came to NYC in 1879 with their seven children: Stephen, Joseph, James, Frank, Isabella, Margaret and Catherine. The two older children: Michael and Lizzie came over earlier. According to Isabella's death certificate, her father was Dr. Denis O'Farrell and her mother's name was Elizabeth. No information on the parents for Michael Reynolds. Thanks!

Hello,
I have been trying to break through a wall in my Lynch line for several years and I wonder if you might be able to help me?
My earliest confirmed Lynch ancestor was named Thomas Lynch, of Red River County Texas, born about 1857. His father was probably also named Thomas Lynch, of the state of Virginia, born 9 Aug 1821. It is possible that his middle name began with the initial "L".
In your research, have you come across my Thomas L. Lynch of Virginia?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give. I am particularly looking for Thomas L. Lynch's ancestors and when they came from Ireland. Some of the males in my Lynch line had the names Leroy and Luther, so perhaps the L. initial I found on a tombstone photo could be either of those names.

thank you for replying. If Andrew and Mary Anne, who would be my great-grandparents are related to you too, I am VERY interested in any info, pictures you may have. I have been to the 1911 Census the 3 girls you mentioned and the 6 boys, including my grandfather Bartholomew are listed. From the census Mary Anne McCarrick would have been born around 1869/71. Is that what you would have? You said the picture taken of Mary Anne was circa 1950's. If this is indeed the same Mary Anne, then she would have been in her 80's. I know they lived in Ballysadare, and I was taken to a house that is belived to have been a house they lived in, while I was in Ireland 3 years ago. Had to climb over a gated fence and down a overgrown path to see it. Please contact me at heavenbound_70560@yahoo.com
Look forward in hearing from you.
Just came across your post. My grandmother is Ann Neary born 1904, daughter of Andrew Neary and Mary Anne Mc Carrick. They did indeed have 9 surviving children (3 girls Ann, Peggy (Margaret) and Bridget and 6 boys), 12 in total as I recall from my grandmother but 3 died young. I don't know much about Andrew Neary but I can inquire from my mother who used to spend summers as a child at the cottage in Ox Mountains. They moved to Ballisodare in 1950's I believe.

My great-great-great grandmother Catharine Mullery came emigrated from Ireland to Boston in 1854 aboard Star of Empire. She was born around 1834 and is listed in the 1860 census as a widow living in Pennsylvania with three children. No members of the Mullery family are listed on the ship register with her. I found a few records of Mullerys living in County Galway in the 1850s, but no record of Catharine or her children anywhere in Ireland. Can anyone suggest a way in which I might locate information on Catharine's husband?

Sorry - I've been taking care of family for the last year. I will come back this weekend and post the outline of who was whom - we call my Aunt Frances' letter the Begets and Begats list cause it listed EVERYONE and their children but not one stinking date. Thanks.

Beth
