Hi I have a ancestor James Linnane, who was convicted of Sheep stealing in Ireland and sentenced to 7 years transportation, arriving in Van Diemans Land 1853, It is believed James was Pardoned shortly after arrival, then after an argument with Patrick (believed to be about Patrick wishing to marry, when he was married to another woman in Ireland before their conviction and subsequent transportation)it is believed he left Tasmania, and nothing else is really known after that. I wonder if perhaps your James and mine are one and the same?

Hi,
You have a report of a Lucille Mahoney from the Parish of Kilrush on your website www.hometoclare.com . I currently have a visitor from Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the famine commemoration in Kilrush. Her name is Linda Bruce Culligan and she may be related to this Lucille Mahoney as her great-grandfather Dennis Culligan had a sister Anastasia Culligan who married a Michael Mahony in Kilrush and they had a daughter Lucy Mahony born in Kilrush. Where did you get the information on Lucille Mahoney and do you have a possible contact so that I can maybe put them in contact to see if they are related.

A bit belated, but I wanted to thank you for your reply. I searched Griffiths further throughout County Clare and nowhere else do the names of both Collins and Haugh appear. I think (hope) you hit it spot on! Next month my daughter and I are traveling to Kilkee, County Clare, and have arranged to meet with the Parish Priest (Father Haugh!) who will assist us in searching parish records for the 1840 time period. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to look into this. It is gratefully appreciated!!

Church of Ireland graveyard has both Catholic & Protestant denominations buried in it. There is a major restoration project ongoing at the moment to clean up the graveyard and uncover lost graves after years of neglect. It was totally overgrown with wild vegation for years. Your uncle Paddy was involved. If you logon to Kilrush Local History Group on facebook loads of information and pictures of it on there. The graveyard is to be rededicated sometime over the next 2 weeks as part of the Famine National Comemoration week which Kilrush has been nominated for this week. Kilrush was one of the worst affected towns in Ireland during the famine. I will send you some death records on the Butlers later.

Hope this helps you. The last of the Butlers of Kilrush (Paddy Butler) died about 2 weeks ago R.I.P.
Hi,
I was just wondering if there was any info on my Great Grandfather Michael Butler who was married to Mary Anne Murphy. In the 1911 census it has them living at 36 Burton Street,Kilrush Urban both aged 32 , so approx births for both 1879. In the 1911 census it says they have been married for 16 years ,so approx married in 1895. There is no record of any of them in the 1901 census. I seemed to hit a dead end about find any info on Micheal & Mary anne. I know this thread was a long time ago, but ill give it a go..hope you can help....Regards Francis Keane

I'm trying to find John and Anne Carey Slattery and their decendants. John and Anne had 8 children: Edward D, Martha, Michael, John, Mary, Cornelius, Margaret and James. All but the last 3 emmigrated to the USA ( Nebraska) between 1880-1890. Cornelius married a Bridget and stayed with the parents. I believe Margaret and James died rather young.I can't find them before 1901 or after 1911. They are on the census both times in Cloongahhen, Killokennedy, Co Clare. Help?

Hi -
I saw your message while doing some research on my grandmother's family. Her name was Mary Brew, her brother was George Brew and he started the Brew Cab Co, in Niagara Falls, NY. George and Mary also had siblings named Jane, Kathleen, Maggie and Ann. My grandmother Mary Brew married John Stack and moved to Niagara Falls. The rest of the siblings settled in South Buffalo. Jane married a Comerford and Kathleen married a Gorman. Ann married John McCarthy. Not sure about Maggie.
I realize your post is from 2001 - hoping you are still following the website.
Thanks - Nancy Crown

Susan McNamara was the sister of my forebear, John McNamara , born 1832 Miltown Malbay, died 1918 Melbourne Australia.

The parents of John, Susan and several others, some of whom may not have survived the great famine, were Francis McNamara and Honora McMahon.

Some of John's siblings set up long -term connections with the US. Miltown Malbay has remained as the ancestral territory for the family, a place for travelers to go on pilgrimage.

We have a list of the various descendants from the Bog Road families, Sexton, Kellys, Sullivan, Goonan and White. I think it must have come from some of the US McNamaras , though I'm not sure. It is not dated and is a bit short on dates, but it includes the descendants in Ireland and the US. It runs, of course to quite few pages.

In 2009, 150 years since his arrival in this country, we published a book of the stories of the first Australian generation, which also links back to continuing Irish connections in Miltown Malbay and Kilkenny, his wife's birthplace. (The McNamara Meany Family in Australia 1859 - 2009, available on e-bay. Further details if you like. )

It seems likely that we have common ancestry. With good wishes

Wife Mary McLaughlin from Galway 1816-81. They immigrated 1848-50 based on children's birthplaces: Mary 1843, Annie 1845, Sarah 1848 (all born Ireland), Bridget 1850, Margaret 1853 (both NH). Town histories, town/church records, censuses don't mention a son Patrick. Daughter Bridget never married and died in Charlestown in 1875. My Thomas had siblings Sarah 1813-93, Michael 1814-88, Timothy 1820-78, Bridget 1825-1912, all immigrating 1846-54, dying in Charlestown. Mother Mary (Ruane) McMahon 1795-1874 immigrated 1854. Father William died before then. Robin in Maryland

Re: 'Raybauld' family name, Ennis query

Our family is derived from the Riboldi's of Limerick but we do not have any association, as far as we know, with the Raybauld
family name - or variations of it - . We have commonality with the name Rebolde and various spellings of Riboldi ...Rabolde etc.

We would agree with the posting suggesting the name Raybauld - and variations - is of French origin.

regards

A Holt.

Re: Matthias Sullivan from Kilmihil Co. Clare

Have you looked at the Kilmihil Parish Website www.kilmihil.com under history/genealogy you will find this family with some more names. Margaret Griffin is listed as Peg Griffin a common nickname for Margaret in Ireland, also at times Peggy. Lots of information on genealogy in the website.

Matthias Sullivan from Kilmihil Co. Clare

My Great Aunt Hanorah Cussen married Matthias Sullivan (1865) in 1917. His parents were Thomas Sullivan and Margaret Griffin, siblings were Catherine (1867), Michael (1867), Thomas (1869), James (1872), Martin (1875) and Ellen (1878). I was wondering if anyone was researching this family and would like to share information. Thank you for your time.
