I am searching for information on Dennis Lenehan born circa 1806. According to his military records, he enlisted in the 75th Regiment of Foot in Ireland at Roscrea, Tipperary County in 1825 and served until the end of 1846. During that time he was stationed in the Cape of Good Hope for 13 years and took part in the First Kaffir War of 1834-1835.
Based on the information in his military records he was born in "the Parish of Killila (I cannot find this parish) in or near the town of Killaloe in the County of Clare". I can find Killaloe on the Shannon River on the eastern boundary of the County of Clare.
Research seems to indicate that the earliest Catholic records in Killaloe are births beginning in 1829 so this is too late to find Dennis' circa 1806 baptism. However, I was hoping that he returned here to get married when he was discharged in Dublin on July 20, 1846, or had his children Margaret and Dennis baptized here.
Sometime in the mid to late 1840s he was married to Catherine ? and had two known children in Ireland - Margaret b. circa 1846 and Dennis b. circa 1849. They emigrated to Canada and arrived in Toronto circa 1850. Dennis Lenehan died in Toronto in 1887 at the age of 93 year old.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Michael
