I'll leave an old message I have previously posted below, but have just found some new information that tells me my Great Grandfather was born in Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow in 1841.. Here's the new info. his father was David Griffin, mother Margaret Griffin maiden name either De Bevers or Beaver. John had a sister Mary Jane Griffin and a brother James. Some info states that the family might be from Scotland, Family papers say David Griffin is buried in Newtonards, Ireland. Here's my old message.

Ancestor's name: John Wallingford Griffin. Date and Place of Birth: April, 1841 in Newtownard, County Down Ireland. Parents name: His father was a Griffin and mothers maiden name Beaver. Year of Departure from Ireland: Not sure, I would guess between 1850 to 1860. John Griffin married Ellen Curran around 1870 I believe in the USA, but not sure. There first child was born in San Francisco in 1872. In all the city directories I've found him in he is listed as a Marine Engineer. He died in Oakland, CA November, 10 1898. They had six children all born in San Francisco from 1872 to 1888, one of them was David Edward Griffin born in 1884 died in 1954 my Grandfather. There other children were Margaret Alice Griffin born in 1872 died in 1950, Annie Frances Griffin born in 1875 died in 1961, Clarence Griffin born in 1875 died in 1928, John Walter Griffin born in 1879 died in 1929, Ellen Nellie Griffin born in 1888 died in 1948 married to Frank Lane. My Grandfather David Griffin married Ambrosine Cecilia Murphy in 1923 in Oakland California she was from Portland, Oregon. Ambrosine (Murphy) Griffin died giving birth to my father Ambrose Edward Griffin in 1926. My father Ambrose Edward Griffin married Carol Irene Hansen in 1948. My name is Rick Griffin and I'm trying to find any possible relatives that might be living and related to my Griffin or Murphy line.
