This is less a specific query, and more a fishing trip for clues and research tips. I have long ago hit a dead end in my research on my direct female line, but I live in hope that one day I'll find something new to nudge me in the right direction.
Here's the very little that I know:
My immigrant ancestress, Catharine McClaity (spelling may differ), was born in Armagh in about 1808. She married Danial McCoy and they had at least three children, Francis (b. 1829), Bridget Ellen (b. 15 May 1839) and Catharine (b. 1844). There may have been other children named Ann, Michael and Mary, but I have no dates for them. My assumption is that Danial died before 1857, because in that year Catharine and her children emigrated to America.
So that's it, and I know it's not much. McCoy isn't exactly an unusual name, and McClaity, assuming that's correct, seems to be unique to the point that I can't find anything very similar. The only real specific I have is Bridget's birthdate.
Can anyone help, or at least offer research advice? I'm currently located in the US, but I'm not opposed to the idea of an eventual research trip to Armagh; I just want to be sure I know what I'm doing first.
