I am still looking for my ggg grandfather, who was born in 1812 in County Armagh. His name was Pockrage/Pockrich/Padraig(Patrick) Dancy/Dancey/Darcy. He spelled his name both Pockrage Dancy and Pockrich Dancey when he came to Ontario Canada. I believe that the people that did his immigration changed his name from Padraig Darcy to Pockrage/Pockrich. He came to Ontario when he was 12 years old, with 2 older brothers and 1 older sister. Their names were Edward, Richard and Jane. He was Anglican. I hope that someone out there will be able to help me. Thanks! Lin

Hi Lin.
Lets compare "stone walls". In St.Mary's Anglican Cemetary,Manvers
Township, Ontario, not far from Lindsay, there is a barely readable
stone for Mary Dancy, born in Ireland,1805, d.1883.No one knows
where she fits into the Dancy name. She was the wife of James Shea,
Anglican, who came with Mary to Manvers in 1840.Since Manvers is
next to Cavan township, I thought that Cavan, in Ireland was their home.
I now think that they came from further north. The Orange Lodge in
Ontario was very strong around Lindsay. It started in Tyrone, Fermanagh
and Armagh. I think that the mother of James was a Hetherington,
a name centered in the Tyrone, Fermanagh,Armagh area. Now here is
my fantasy. Could Mary be the older sister of Pockrage and stayed
behind in the Old Country, only to come out later? Could she have
stayed behind to care for ageing parents?
Comments?

This is an intriguing question. It could be VERY possible. Since Jane seems to have either come with Pockrage or was here before he came, it stands to reason that Mary could be another one of his family members. The names are of the same type and could very easily have been from the same parents. Hope that you are able to find out about this one. Please let me know how you do, ok? Have a great day, Lin Hendrickson, Canby, Minnesota, U.S.A.
