For what this is worth, just to add to this mix, I would like to suggest the possibility of the name Mclernan, possibly being McKernan, depending of the dialect of the region. I am researching the name McKiernan/McKernan in the Ballycasle area of Co. Antrim. My paternal great grandmother was Sarah McCaigue (not sure if this is corret spelling in the records) married to Henry McKernan (as shown on the Tithe Applotment records in 1831) in the Fair Head district, just outside of Ballycastle. On the other hand, I do know there were McLernons in the area, as my father, JAMES FRANCIS McKIERNAN (b.1899), knew of a McLernon in Philadelphia, back around 1960, who he claimed he knew from the 'old country'. My father came to the US in 1923.
