Classification: Query
Surnames: TOLAND, McALPIN(E), HEYLAND, GALT, SIMMES, BARRY (all have varying spellings)
Seek specific location of Glen Oak (or ANY info on that name) & info on these families. Our ancestor, daniel BARRY (b. 1769 banbridge area & studied briefly for priesthood at Jesuit Seminary in Newry)was a tutor for john HEYLAND's family at "Glen Oak(s)" ca1790-97. There he met & married, 1793, a neighbor girl Rosanna TOLAND, dau of henry Toland & wife elizabeth McALPIN(E)/McCALPIN(E). Daniel & Rosanna emigrated to US 1797 & were accompanied by a Miss GALT, a relative of Heyland. She joined a brother-in-law, Mr SIMMES in Fincastle, Virginia. We plan to visit co antrim in early-mid April & wonder if glenoak gardens & glenoak grange which are adjacent in eastside of town of Crumlin could be remnant of heyland estate? Would like to make contact with anyone having ANY info on Glen Oak or any of these families (spellings vary)or suggestions of where i might find such info. Thank You in advance for any response.
