Does anyone out there have any ancestors from the Isle of Man with the surname CAVENDISH or CORJEAGE. I have been told that they are the same family.

I descend from this same line! I understand that Quartaige was changed to Corjeage because it was easier to say phonetically. Not many people could read and write in the 1600's. Then Corjeage was anglicized and became Cavendish when John Cavendish (1813-1870) came to the U.S. Would love to share more with you!

Surnames: Corjeag, Corjeage, Cannell, Curphey
Do you know anything about a female Corjeag, known as a Manx Nightingale? My gr. gr grandmother, Ann Cannell (marr to Wm Henry Curphey) (d. in 1850, aged 41, at birth of 10th child, Mgrt. He remarried same year to Ann Corjeag (par: Thomas/Charlotte Mylchrane of Ballalonna, KM). Notes are that the 2 Ann's were relatives and that Ann Cannell had a relative who was called the Manx Nightingale. I have an article from the Manx Sun, dated 22 Oct 1870 talking about a Miss Corjeag being called a Manx Nightingale and singing at a concert in Maidstone, Kent, England. Unfortunately, no first name, but a Kirk Michael native. I've made an educated guess at my Ann Curphey (nee Cannell's- John and Jane Cowley b) parents, from a Will I found on what I think is her brother. He mentioned all of Ann's boys in it. There is no MI or such for Ann but I do know she was bur. in KM. Where, maybe w/parents--don't know???! Any help greatly appreciated, either on the singer or my gr. gr grandmother.
