Searching for Robert Smith born abt 1850/56 who was a Shoemaker and his father John Smith a Tailor both born in England.

I'm trying to locate the 1871 census for Drumgold Street, Douglas. I have saved every page on Ancestry for this street with house numbers 1 - 24 and cannot see them (the Smith's).

Are there any records missing on this website?

I came accross a search my late uncle had put out in 2010, who lived on the island and stated he had found them at this address and didn't send me a copy. He must have found something for him to put this address.

Can anyone please search the records for this 1871 census Drumgold Street to see if you can find anything.

Robert Smith married at Bradden on the 24 October 1877 to Mary Ann Quiggin and they had 2 daughters by the 1881 census. Later on in 1881 Mary Ann Smith nee Quiggin died and sadly one of their daughters died as a baby in 1882.

Robert Smith went off to either South Africa or Australia to make a fortune leaving my great grandmother an orphan.

Robert never returned to the island and we can only presume he either died before he could get back or married again.

I have been researching my family tree for over 15 years now and my late Uncle long before that!

I already have the 1881 census and was asking if anyone could check the original records in the manx library as sometimes Ancestry do not have the complete records. I have on many ocassions found information missing or incorrect. I stated I had copied all the pages for Drumgold Street, Douglas and was asking is it correct that there were house numbers 1 - 24 and no more!

I do not think my Uncle got it wrong and as I mentioned he had been doing the family tree for over 30 years and my great Uncle before him had passed on what he had found!

My late Uncle must have come accross something when he was doing one of his searches at the library. It is just unfortunate that I can't get to the Island and look myself.

Have you looked at the Lawson website? If not this might be useful:-
