Lt Col R S Moseley - How do I get more info on him.
My grandfather & his sisters were supposedly born in India c 1880-1890. Their father was reported as being an officer in India. His name has been given on a number of documents by his children as "Roundolph" and his wife as Phyllis Carlisle. I have had no luck in tracing either of them until today when I searched on FMP (it's their free weekend) and came upon an Army listing for Lt Col R S Moseley in the category "Military, armed forces & conflict. Google gave me 2 hits that Lt Col Moseley "served in China and was present in the engagement of the 8th January, 1859 when the battery and village of Shek-tsing were captured".
I have looked on the archives site - no luck there. Can anyone help me find more information about Lt Col RS Moseley, his given name would be a good start.
There is also anecdotal evidence from two parts of the wider family that have nothing to do with each other that there could be a connection to Oswald Mosley.
TIA, Glenys

Re: Lt Col R S Moseley - How do I get more info on him.
Yes, I have researched from myself backwards.
My mother was Rita Olive Moseley born 30.8.1914. Her father was Harrington Charles Moseley born c 1885, his sister Mary born c 1889 Dehli India and Edith Sarah born c 1887. Mary's approx year of birth is taken from her marriage certificate to Robert Browne 1912 and Harrington Charles YoB is estimated from his marriage certificate with Margaret Murray Aitken in 1909. Both Harrington & Edith give their birthplace as England but can't make up their minds where while Mary gives hers as Dehli. Both Harrington & Mary are consistent in their parents names and spelling (Roundolph Moseley & Phyllis Carlisle) on all documents where they gave the information. Mary gives her fathers name as Ronnie and mother as Annie.
Thanks, Glenys

Have you tried the India Office Library and/or Families in British India Society, (FIBIS)?

Thank you for his name, another possible lead bites the dust but them's the breaks in genealogy I'll just have to keep looking.
Cheers,

London Gazette reported all military appointments and promotions of officers; it is searchable online for free. However the search tools are coarse and you will have to wade through a lot of spurious hits. However if you filter by date you may find it useful to create a body of leads that may not be too large in view of the relative uncommon nature of the surname Moseley.
