My main thrust with this question related to knowing where my mystery man had his NI number issued, and to see if there was any useful information that might lead me to track his family (at that time!) down - he had already gone through three identities and two families by then!

Thanks for the post- I guess it will be for the next generation to see what information, if any, lie hidden in the DWP archives on this one!
