I am looking for my G/grandfather who seems to have changed his name sometime before 1891. I have found him in the 1891 census living in Jersey, Channel Islands under the name of Austen James Ward but I cannot find him any earlier than this. My father has found an old photo my uncle sent him with his name as Richard James Ward. He was born abt 1860 and on the 1901 and 1911 census he states he was born in York, Yorkshire. There is a family story that while a youngster he did not lift his cap to a man of the cloth and the clergy man clipped him and he hit him back, knocking him to the floor and had to leave the village he was living in. If anyone has a man who seems to have just disappeared would you please let me know. Regards Janet
