I hope someone can help me. I am trying to trace my great grandfather Sam Deakin from his birth in 1854 until he was six years old. I can trace him through the census records from when he was seventeen and onwards but not prior to this. He was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire in 1854, there is no birth certificate for him. He is listed in the 1871 census as living with his widowed mother Sarah Deakin but in 1861 Sarah is listed in living in lodgings but without Sam. Sam married in 1872 to Selina Smedley Hardy and his father is named on the marriage cert as Samuel Deakin but I can't trace him and I can't trace Sarah Deakin past 1871 either, can't find a death for her. I have been stuck on this for years so would be grateful for any help.
