I have traced my Dowler tree back as far as Emma Dowler (b abt 1833) living in Hood Street, Worcester on the 1871, 1881, 1891 census (she dies at this address in December 1898). From her death certificate I gather that she was the widow of Henry Dowler (but he must have died prior to 1871 as Emma is a widow on that census)...
HOWEVER, I can't find her, Henry or indeed my GG Grandfather (Henry Edward 1858) on any census prior to 1871. Does anybody know why this may be so? Has some of the census records for Worcester been destroyed somehow as I doubt she left the country (her children were born in Worcester - Henry Edward and William George 1863)??
Any help much appreciated as I'm rather at a loss what happened to her prior to 1871. Thanks, Emma :-)
