I was very interested to read your posting as I spent Saturday at the PRO researching my relation Harry Musselwhite and his family - father James b.1848 Britford? (Alderbury district) lived Steeple Langford, mother Emma(/Ellen) born Downton 1850. Is this likely to be the same line as you are researching?
