If you send for the marriage certificate of James and Margaret it will give fathers names and occupations

James Strickland age 23 m Margaret Alderson age 21, 30 Nov 1857 Crosthwaite

It seems that your James was the oldest!!

There was a son Thomas b 13 Jun 1858.
He married Jane Medcalf Sep 1877 Kendal

He is living next door to James and Margaret in 1881--so I assume Moses is his son??

I too am researching this same family of Stricklands of Crosthwaite and Lyth. My great great grandfather Thomas Strickland was the brother of the James Strickland who married Margaret Alderson.
I believe their parents were James Strickland (born Stainton, Westmorland 1803), and Elizabeth Bambridge (born Old Hutton, Westmorland, 1798). Does this fit with anybody else's research?

Hi gailvevers,
It looks like James Strickland born 1803 Stainton Westmorland is great great great grandfather to both of us! Unfortunately to date I have not traced further back.
All my info has come via census information and is not in general substantiated further.

I have James (b 1830) Margaret (b 1827) and Thomas (b1837) as the children of James and Elizabeth 'Betty' Bambridge/Bainbridge (married Heversham 1823). Are you aware of more siblings in this family?

The line I have been following is that of my great great grandfather Thomas (b 1837), who married Frances 'Fanny' Barber. They had 8 children born between 1870 and 1888 - Francis (1870), Samuel (1871), John (1873), Mary Elizabeth (1876) Maria (1880), Albert (1882), Ernest (1885) and Isabella (1888).

Mary Elizabeth married my great grandfather Anthony Benson (b 1872) (son of Anthony Benson, b1827) on May 30th 1898 at Crosthwaite.

I am keen to get back further than James Strickland - but have so far drawn a blank.

Hi Gail,
I tried to email you from the message board last week - I guess your message indicates you didn't get the email. Is that right?
Happy Christmas '4th cousin'!
