Hi Lisa.
Thanks for the information about the Bryan's in your family.I'm not sure if William is the same as my William as his wife,Hephzibah didn't die until 1898 which rules out a second marriage to my Ann Vincent in 1886. Their son William [b.1872] is too young to have been Ann's husband.

Good luck with your research - I shall plod on tracing the Vincent's back as far as I can. My dream is to find out that one of them would have known William Shakespere's father as they were from the same area. Both were craftsmen and merchants- John Shakespere was a glove maker and my Vincent's were cabinet makers. I need to view parish records of All Saints Church in Stratford on Avon to see how likely it is!
Best wishes, Di.

Hi Dianne,

These are the Bryans i have in my family,

William Bryan-B,1839-1909, My G,G,Grandftr
Hephzibah Dunkley-B,1842-1898,(My G,G,Grnmtr), i think Hephzbiah may of been called anne,
Childen

Edward Alfred Bryan
1860 – 1942
Walter Bryan
1863 –
Eliza Bryan
1865 –
Mary Ann Bryan(my Great-Grandmother, she married William Burgess, in 1868, B,ham
1868 –
Charles Bryan
1870 –
William Bryan
1872 –
Florence Bryan
1873 –
Beatrice Bryan
1875 –

There's a frank Bryan aswel,

All B,ham Born,

I haven't a clue of the children of the other Bryan family member's as of yet!

But i Do have this Reference, Re-William Bryan & Hephzibah(Anne) Dunkley

There is an entry in the BMD register, 3rd Quarter 1839. Ref: Birmingham xvi 292.

In the 1851 census there is an entry for a Willam Bryan aged 13 apprecnticed to Fredreick Watkins, master Cordwainer, of 50 Great Barr Street Birmingham. In the 1841 census, there is an entry for a William Bryan aged three under the entry for the Birmingham Workhouse, It seems likely that this was our William, and an apprenticeship with a shoemaker at 13 would have been quite likely for a workhouse lad - cheap labour, However, in the 1861 cnesus William is a journeyman shoemaker, living with Hepsibah, in Watkins Cottage, court 4, Great Barr Street. There is an entry in the BMD register for the wedding of a William Bryan in the 3rd Quarter 1860, Ref Birmingham 6d 230 which seems more than likely to be his wedding. In the 1861 census Edward Alfred is shown as 6 months old, which fits.

Any connection

Regards

Lisa.

Hi!
James and Hannah are my GGGrandparents. How nice to 'meet' another member of our family through Ancestry!
I almost answered a post on here about the Vincent family of Alveston, and possible link to Bluebird Toffee, but then realised the query was from 2005, so you probably have the details already.
We are indeed related to Sir Harry Vincent of Bluebird Toffee. Our 4th Great Grandparents are John Vincent (C1752 Alveston) and Elizabeth Ashborn (C1749 Alveston), who married at St James'Church, Alveston, Warwickshire on 29th May 1774. They lived in Welford on Avon (which was in Gloucestershire as part of Marston Sicca until 1931, it is now in Warwickshire) - their 7 children were all baptised at St Peter's Church, Welford on Avon. James (C1788) is the father of 'our' James, and the family lived in Luddington. John and Elizabeth's eldest son John, who lived in Binton, is Sir Harry's Great Grandfather.
Kindest regards

HI, Many thanks for your information, Our James Vincent, born Oct. 1824 in Luddington, near to Stratford upon Avon. He married Elizabeth Milner born 1825, on 19th Jan 1851 at St Phillips Church. She died 6 Sept.1859 from scarlet fever. They had 4 children, the youngest Elizabeth was born 31 August 1859 just a week before her mother died. Sadly she died at just 4 months [10 Jan 1860] from whooping cough and convulsions.

James then married Hannah Roderick on 8th Dec 1861 at St Peter and St Paul's Church, Aston and they had 6 children, the oldest being Ann. As you mention she married William Bryan in 1886 and had 4 children, Harry, born 1886 in Birmingham, William, born 1889 in Shustoke, Alice, born 1893 in Shustoke and the youngest child was born 1897 in Shustoke. I have her name as Jane but she may have had Beatrice as one of her names as my grandmother was Beatrice Annie. Her father was John, the son of James and Elizabeth.

So, to answer your question the Bryan family are connected to my family and any information you may have on either the Vincent or the Bryan family will be very welcome. If I can help pad out your information I shall be pleased to do so if I can. Kind regards, Di [ known as Lynn to the family!]

Hello Lisa
I have only just noticed this thread has recently been added to, and I have some information for you, it may not be relevant, I have not as yet found an Eric Vincent in our tree marrying in B'ham in 1851. But I do know of a link to a Bryan family.

James Vincent was baptised in Stratford upon Avon in 1824. His first wife sadly died in 1859. James married again in 1861.
Help locating 2 YARDLEY deaths near Tanworth in Arden mid 1800s

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me locate two deaths for the following two Yardley ancestors. Part of my difficulty is that all the Yardleys in Tanworth in Arden at that time, are related to all the other Yardleys and several cousins of the same generations share the same Christian names.

My JOHN YARDLEY was born c1800 to Sarah (nee Palmer) and Joseph Yardley of Tanworth in Arden. He was baptised in T in A on 26 Jul 1801 and married Phoebe Southam in St Philips, Birmingham on 20 Apr 1837. In the 1841 census, they were residing in the hamlet of Nuthurst and John was listed as a tailor. Their children were Edwin, Julia, John (jnr), Richard and Walter. Another son Joseph was born c 1842. John died prior to the 1851 census. There is more than one John Yardley listed on the Warks BDM during that time which may be our John. The LDS familysearch.org site shows a John Yardley buried in Nuthurst on 28 Jan 1848 but I haven't been able to locate any Nuthurst burial images which may confirm if this is our John.

Phoebe Yardley (nee Southam - also spelled as Phobe and Phebe) was born at Lawford Hill, Warks about 1805 and baptised as an adult at Nuthurst on 6 Aug 1837. She is recorded as a widow in the 1851 census and is residing with her sons John and Joseph in Hockley Village where she is a grocer and bathwoman. The 1861 census shows her living as a lodger in a residence at Lapworth. I have not been able to locate her after that date.

A Phoebe Yardley who was in the 1871 census living with her daughter Esther and whose death was recorded as Jan 1879, Stratford on Avon is not our Phoebe. She was the widow of John's cousin Joseph and lived at Little Bicker's Court in T in A.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me. One of my relations Jane Allsop married Edward Henry Bradbury on 22 February 1913 in Birmingham. They had the following children:

Lilian in 1908
Violet in 1909
Edward in 1911
Jenny in 1912
Henry in 1913
Doris in 1916

And all the children were also born in Birmingham.

What I would dearly love is a photograph of Jane Bradbury, our family did have one once many many years ago, but unfortunately my grandmother got rid of it.

If anyone can help I would be over the moon.
Thanking you in advance.

Melissa Hancock

What a mystery for you to unravel, how did your grandmother find out that he had been married before and do you know if details of this marriage were quoted at the time of his arrest.I would have imagined that there must be some paperwork somewhere because she would have had to show proof to the authorities of his marriage to get the bigamous one 'annulled'.(perhaps not the correct word?)

Thank you for replying. He was 30 years old, living at 43 Tenison Street, Lambeth. I'm pretty sure that his whole name was made-up. He said his father George Padman Scott-Riddle was an MP (not true). His own profession was given as an Aero Engineer. I've checked the electoral roll with Lambeth for 1939 and either side but no joy. He was apparently arrested but never charged. There were rumours that he could have been Australian or South African but again no luck.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Seymour/Seymore from Birmingham Warwickshire

I am researching the family of Thomas Seymour/Seymore b. circa 1800, arrived in NYC in Aug 1832 on ship George Canning. First lived in Pittsburgh area, then in Cincinnati in 1850. Story is he went to California during gold rush with his son, Thomas. They never returned. Rest of the family stayed in Cincinnati. In 1909, a letter was received from a solicitor at the Hamilton County, Ohio Probate Court regarding a Thomas Seymore, button maker from Birmingham, England. Lawyer was looking for descendants to settle an estate. Any idea where I can start with this?

If you have some dates then ancestry + census records might help. Birmingham records mainly seem to be in the library there so might not be available.
