Hi Tan,
The father of your great-great grandmother is the brother of my great-great-great grandfather called Isaac Archer born in Hanbury 03/01/1804. This makes us distantly related. Could you tell me if your great-great grandmother's maiden name was Ann Greatrix or not. I have information that Thomas Archer married Esther but I do not know her last name. Do you? We thought it was Esther Elkin but that was not the one. The parents of Thomas (b. 14/01/1766) were John Archer (b. 09/10/1732) and Ann Sherratt, and John's parents were John Archer (b.30/07/1693) and Ruth Hallam). After this things start getting a bit hazy.
Thomas (b. 1766) was a carpenter and so was his sons William (b. 20/06/1794) and Isaac. I have heard from people who are related to Thomas (1766). One was related to his sister Isabella (b. 03/05/1761) and the other to his sister Ruth (b. 21/08/1763). They lived in the hamlet of Hanbuy Woodend (not to be confused with Hanbury, or Woodend which are both nearby).
The name Archer was quite a common name in the area, but ours were carpenters/joiners whereas there were others who were farmers. While researching on Thomas Archer (1766) who lived in Hanbury Woodend I came across a farmer living in the same hamlet called Thomas Archer!!! My great-grandfather married a woman whose mother's maiden name was Archer and she was baptised in Hanbury but from a different line to my fathers.
Hope this taster has been of help to you and if you want I could let you have the e-mail addresses of others who are also research the same family, one in Australia, one in Sobham, Cambs., etc.
Regards
Alan Archer
I'm trying to trace the family of my great-great grandmother Mary Archer who was born in Hanbury in 1831, Her parents were Thomas & Ann, I think Thomas was born in 1789 in Hanbury to Esther and Thomas Archer born 1766 to John Archer and Ann.
Does this tie in to anything you have come across in your research?
I guess it's very likely that we're related as this doesn't seem to have been a common name in the area at the time.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks
Tan
