Hi, I have recently started researching my family tree & would be very grateful for any information of the Morris family of 25 Cleeton Street. John Morris is my grandfather.

Information below relates to my Great Uncle Arthur Morris

Arthur Morris (Small)
Private Arthur Morris, later Lance Corporal.
(Taken c.1912 when he was a leader with Heath Hayes Scout Troop).

Arthur Morris was born in June 1898, the son of Charles and Sarah Morris of Cannock Road, Heath Hayes.

Arthur was a member of St. John’s Church Choir and Scout Troop. Shortly before the outbreak of war he was working as a miner at Cannock & Leacroft Colliery.

He enlisted with the South Staffordshire Regiment in December 1914 and was initially stationed at Lichfield Barracks.

He served from 1915 to 1918 and was discharged from the army in December 1921. For his service Arthur received the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

In 1927 Arthur married local girl Hilda Jeffries and the couple settled in Stafford Street, Heath Hayes with their two sons Alan and Geoff.

During World War Two, Arthur served as a senior Civil Defence Warden and taught signalling to Air Force Cadets.
