I am curious if anyone has the origin of the surname Grinstead. I would be interested in when and why it first appeared.

Also I am seeking info on the Grinsteads from Slinfold, and Horsham areas. Specifically seeking family of Frederick Reginald "Reggie" Grinstead born October 13, 1900 in Lower Beeding, Horsham, Sussex who was sent to Ontario Canada. He later settled in Massena NY. His parents were Robert and Jane Hannah Grinstead. Robert was born in 1859 in Slinfold, Sussex. Jane was born in 1863 in Ashington, Sussex. I saw on the Horsham board of Knowhere.co.uk that someone has the line i seek back to 1736 if anyone knows how I may get a copy of this I would be very grateful. Any help greatly appreciated.
