Hi, I know its been 4 years since you posted this message but I am looking at my family history and Robert Shore, living in Corston Somerset on the 1901 Census was my great grandfather. He had several children, one of whom, Albert George Shore was my grandfather. Albert George, known as George, married Dorothy May Whitehead in the 1920's and had 4 children one of whom was my dad. Look forward to connecting up with you if you are interested, best wishes, Liz Masters nee Shore

Surnames: Shore, Dowling
Although I don't know of a direct link to Robert SHORE, I hope you don't mind me enquiring whether you might know anything of a Mary SHORE who married James DOWLING at Frome, St Johns, in 1827. They were my husbands 3x great grandparents, and I haven't been able to find any trace of her family, but could possibly be part of Roberts.
Many thanks,

Jan

Hi, I would imagine that Mary was probably a cousin of Roberts. One of my cousins did a lot of research into the Shore Family and found that most of them originated from Marksbury, in Somerset, they all seemed to have a lot of children and I suspect that Robert's Father was one of them. When I next talk to him, I will enquire for you. The names do ring a bell somewhere in my memory. Try looking under the parish records for Marksbury, Somerset and see if you can trace Mary to that parish. It may be that she was in service in Frome at the time and that is why she married there. We found quite a few links to members of the family who had moved away to find work and then married in those areas. Hope this helps and I will keep your message and have a word with Jess next time I talk to him. best wishes, Liz

Hi Jan, I've just caught up with my cousin, the one who traced the family tree and he tells me the following. Mary Shore was born in 1800 at Marksbury in Somerset, she was one of 9 children, siblings were Anne, Elizabeth, William, Thomas, James, John, Joseph and Susannah. Parents were William Shore and Susannah nee Coale and they were married in Marksbury in 1788. Not all Mary's siblings survived to adulthood and we think she may have been in service in Frome and that is when she met James Dowling. Robert was born in Marksbury also and his wife, Isabella was his first cousin, her mother being Robert's Father Henry's younger sister. She married a Durbin and lived at Chelwood in Somerset.
Roberts parents were Henry and Sarah and Robert was born in 1850. We know that he was a member of a regiment, I think it was a Light Infantry Regiment and he served overseas. Robert was my great Grandfather and his son George Albert was my grandfather. I hope this helps you in your quest for your husband's family. With best wishes, Liz Masters
