FreeBMD has Jun qtr 1839 birth of Matilda Maynard, Taunton Vol 10, page 470.

GenesReunited has Matilda Maynard born Ruishton, living at Taunton, Taunton St James, in the 1861 Census.

FreeBMD has a Sept qtr 1861 marriage of Matilda Maynard and John James Carter in Taunton District, Vol 5c, page 668.

My tree has a John James Carter, born 1837 at Hope Cove, Devon, who was serving in the Royal Navy in 1861, but I am uncertain if he is the same John James Carter who married Matilda Maynard.

Just wondering if your records have any info re this particular Matilda Maynard.
