Looking for informatios about William Stevens and Abigail Raison, From somerset England.Their son John was born in ILTON, Somerset in about 1857. John Migrated to Australia in 1883.Does anyone know what port his ship might have sailed from. Thank.

I have researched Somerset immigrants to Australia who have left from London, Gravesend, Southampton, Plymouth, Bristol and Liverpool. Plymouth was probably the most common port of departure but you would need to know the particular ship and date of voyage to be sure.

As with the free settlers you would need to know the exact ship and date of voyage to be sure of the embarkation point for a particular individual. However I have seen records for some Somerset convicts who embarked at Plymouth and Portland.

Hi, John was John Hugh Stevens son of william Stevens and Abigail Raison, But Apparently only known as Hugh. But on his marriage certificate he was John Hugh. but it is the same person. Regards Elaine
