Hi craig, my name is Debbie McKay and I'm transcibing for FreeCEN the 1841 Census for Hundred of Whitley (which includes Ashcott). There are many Durstons in Aschott at the time of the 1841 Census including a Thomas DURSTON aged 35 Agricultural labourer, with Winifred (30), Sarah (15), George (7), and Sidney (2). If this is your guy or you want more info on the other Durstons in Ashcott, I'd be more than happy to look them up for you.

Hi Debbie
I thankyou for your kind offer and will keep that in mind but i havent found a link to them yet my durstons are from catcott . I have been trying to link all the durstons in australia together but i think the link is in the uk somewhere so i will keep looking but im sure that all of thomas and winifred children did come to australia particularly queensland.

Hi Craig,

Yes my Sidney Thomas And Elizabeth are the ones that came to Australia, but I can be of no help with any of the other names. I'm just curious though, you say that you think that all of thomas and winifreds children came to Australia, are you referring to Charles, George and Sarah-ann that came at the same time as Sidney & Elizabeth?

Hi Craig,

Its ok, nobody tends to make sense at 4am :P

It gets quite confusing even in the middle of the day, my durstons had a bad habit of using the same names an awful lot! Thomas and Winifred had children named George, Elizabeth, Sarah-ann, Charles & Sidney. Sidney married an Elizabeth and had children called George, Charles & Sarah-ann. I have read through some of your other posts and I can see that you have done a lot more research into the durstons than I have yet, so you probably already knew all of that!

We are still Durstons - or rather I became a durston when I married my husband - and with a high male to female birth ratio, the durston name is not going to fade away anytime soon.

If there is anything I can help with don't hesitate to ask.

Renee

Hi, I also have an interest in Durston family of Catcott along with Hooper, Pople, Jeans and Grant who seem to have all intermarried. Several Durstons one of which Sarah Durston married John Grant 1776. Have been taken notes of all Durstons hoping to sort them out so any info. I can help you with would be glad to do so. I have a few B.M.D fiche of Catcott.Regards, Syljun
