Thank you so much for all your work, and your suggestions. I'd found the John Knox born Barony, the dates don't seem quite right, but it certainly seems the best bet.

The baptism records are very useful and have given me some more avenues to look down. Also the info re Clifford's Fort is fascinating.

I think you're right, the best thing to do is get the marriage cert.
