Today is the anniversary of this incident (9th October 1940) which took place at the site of an annexe then being used by St Margaret's Hospital, Epping. Eight women died in total, either in the building or later at the hospital. They were Ellen CAMPBELL(24),Bertha FLEISCHMAN(25) & Adela FRANKS(28) from Stepney, Rose REVENSKI(34) Hackney, Lily SLY(29) Forest Gate, Vi BUCKLE(19) Balham, May BANKS(30) Romford & Eliz SMITH(22) Dagenham.
Despite exhaustive research only 1 burial has been traced: Lily SLY at Manor Park,Sebert Road and that to a grave re-used from 1970!
Are you related to any of these women-possibly an older son or daughter?
After much investigation mainly by Mike Osborne in Epping & myself, Epping District Council have prepared a commemorative plaque to be unveiled at St John's Baptist Ch. Epping later this year.
Please respond in you have any useful information to pass on.
