My mum, her brothers and sister lived in Jupps road for many years both before and during the war. Times were very hard for her as my grandad had left nan to bring up six children with no money. She worked nights cleaning at the London Hospital, delivering babies locally, and taking in washing! Through the war my mum worked in the kitchens at Wrights Wood Yard, which I believe ran along the back of Jupps Rd. As my uncle used to climb over the wall if he was late for work. My mum saw the first doodle bug with her friend as they went to empty bins, my mum's friends hair actually stood on end, my mum said she had never seen anything like it! My mum's family's name was Wright, nan was Florence, (Flo), the family who lived downstairs were called Mr & Mrs Island!
